Countdown: Isabella Lorenzini Commits to the Wolverines

Five-star recruit Isabella Lorenzini of Clarendon Hills, Ill., will continue to compete over the next year for her Hinsdale Central High School girls tennis team.

Isabella Lorenzini has committed to Michigan
And Red Devils fans and coach Scott Radecki couldn't be happier. Lorenzini, a junior, captured the Illinois High School Association Singles Championship last fall. She also has been singles finalist on two occasions - and she also played on three state championship teams.

But, in the fall of 2017 Lorenzini will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., and become a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines.

"Choosing a college was difficult, because there are so many great schools," Lorenzini said. "But, when I visited Michigan, something immediately clicked, and I knew this was the place for me. The campus is beautiful, and I loved the feel of it. The team was so welcoming, and I was amazed at their chemistry and competitive drive. Coach Bernstein is a great coach and I can tell the team really respects her."

Ronni Bernstein, formerly Reis, is in her ninth season at the Wolverines helm. She has guided Michigan to six straight Big Ten championships, including four undefeated seasons in conference play. For her efforts, Bernstein has been elected Big Ten Coach of the Year five times. Last year, the Wolverines won a school-record 26 matches, and advanced to their fourth NCAA Sweet 16 in five seasons. Bernstein was a four-time All-American at Miami, won a doubles gold medal at the 1985 Pan American Games, and attained a world pro ranking of No. 30 in doubles.

"I will prepare for Michigan by training hard, competing hard, and finishing well in high school," Lorenzini added. "I think my first year at Michigan will be challenging and exciting. I think any time you start something new that is worthwhile, there is pressure. It's only natural, and that makes you better. I know Michigan is also strong academically."

Radecki has been part of the Hinsdale Central High coaching staff for the past six seasons. Coaching the boys and girls squads, Radecki has led the Red Devils to eight state team titles.

"What makes Isabella great," Radecki said, "is that her leadership as a player on the court can be really inspiring to other girls on the team. She never quits, and loves to compete. I've been privileged to work with a lot of talented players, and she has been a blast to instruct."
