September Aces Feature in US Open and Other Pro Tournaments
School is back in session and several of last month's aces returned to college with hardware to add to their trophy cases. Juniors also excelled, both at the US Open and in smaller professional events around the world.
UCLA Sweeps Titles at American Collegiate Invitational
The second annual American Collegiate Invitational, held in the final days of the US Open Championships, had more than its share of weather issues and UCLA Bruins. The women's final, with Robin Anderson defeating Chanelle Van Nguyen 6-4, 6-4, was an all-UCLA contest finished indoors, while Mackenzie McDonald managed a 6-2, 7-5 victory in the final over Vanderbilt's Gonzales Austin, the only non-Bruin to reach either final.
College and Junior Players Give it a Try at US Open
The USTA gave out quite a few wildcards this year to junior and former college players. Those players joined some veterans of college tennis in the main draws at the US Open.
June Aces Shine in Paris and on Pro Circuit
School’s out for summer and college stars, both current and former, took advantage of their opportunities in Pro Circuit tournaments last month. In addition, two teens added their names to the list of junior slam champions in Paris, while others made their mark on hard courts across the globe.
