Nikol Davletshina is the new USTA Girls 14s Clay Courts singles champion, while London Evans and Zoe Young emerged as doubles champs in Plantation, Florida.
Davletshina Wins the Clays 14s
The eighth-seeded Davletshina (Boca Raton, Florida) defeated No. 13 Juliana Diianni (Marietta, Georgia) 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in the singles final at Frank Veltri Tennis Center.
Evans (Manchester, Missouri) and Young (Spring, Texas), seeded second in doubles, bested the No. 4 duo of Reena Alavalapati (Austin, Texas) and Eugenia Alvarez (San Antonio, Texas) 7-5, 6-1 to claim the tandem title.
"The tournament) got harder," said Davletshina, who picked up her first 14s gold ball. "I told myself, 'I've got this! Come on!' In the finals my 'weapons were my drop shots. I was pushing her and making her run to the net a lot. I also moved her around a lot."
It may have been Davletshina’s first 14s gold ball, but the talented player won many prestigious tournaments in 12s competitions. Her most recent came last December at the Junior Orange Bowl when she won the singles championship.
She also won the 18s at the Delray Championships, and the 16s events at the Bobby Curtis Championship and the Team Bryan Championships. All of this from a player who is about to enter the sixth grade!
