ACADEMY
"Speaking of our young people, let me share a quick anecdote filled with symbolism of who we are, what we do, and why we do it:
I learned on late Saturday afternoon that one of our many beloved kids had just won the PIAA Girls AAA State Championship in Hershey, PA. This particular young person [Cristina Kaiser] has been with us for at least half of her life, and involved in way more than just our tennis program. On Monday late afternoon, I strolled onto the mezzanine to observe our players and coaches in action, before heading home at the end of a full work day. I looked down on court to see a clinic filled with a highly diverse group of 4-7 year old "munchkins". And, there on a mini-court with a mini-net hitting foam balls with a young child was our recently crowned state champ, quietly "giving back" just as she always does."

"A group of our staff, coaches, and young people had a great week in Atlanta attending the American Tennis Association tournament, where they played great tennis, donated their time to Books to Africa, and visited the historical sites in Dr. Martin Luther King's home neighborhood. On court, Cristina Kaiser finished in 2nd place in the girls 16 and under."

Summer 2011

Cristina was a participant in the 2010-2011 Goodstein Junior Leadership Initiative, the signature youth leadership program at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education under the direction of Ben Hirsh, Coordinator of Youth Leadership and Volunteer Engagement. The GJL Initiative is dedicated to the belief that with the right support, resources, and opportunity young people can make transformational changes in their own lives, the lives of those they care about, as well as in the local, national, and global communities to which they belong. Participants engage in a variety of hands-on activities including: tennis, leadership exercises and workshops, meaningful service-learning projects, organizational governance and decision making opportunities, fund development and summer employment positions.
