Jason Ye brought home the gold in the USTA Boys 12s Clay Court Singles Championship, while Olie Rosa Hall and Pranav Madamanchi captured the doubles crown in Orlando, Florida.
Jason Ye won the Boys 12 Championship
The seventh-seeded Ye (Redmond, Washington) and No. 3 William McGugin (Nashville, Tennessee) engaged in a three-hour finals battle at the USTA National Tennis Center. McGugin won the first set 7-6 (7-4), while Ye took the subsequent sets 6-4, 6-3.
“The mental attitude I brought into this tournament was just to play my heart out, leave it all on the court, and cap off my 12s career on a high note,” said Ye, who won his first USTA ball of any color. “I hit a lot of down-the-line backhand winners, and my serve was firing all during the tournament.”
The No. 6 duo of Rosa Hall (Half Moon Bay, California) and Madamanchi (Chesterfield, Missouri) also had a three-set championship tilt, beating top seeds McGugin and Evan Fan (Mason, Ohio) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to claim the doubles title.
“This is the first time Pranav and I teamed up,” Rosa Hall said. “ I felt that what made us so successful was that whenever one of us was negative the other one stayed positive, which helped us win matches.”
