Head Coach Roland Thornqvist and the Florida Gators are ringing in the New Year with extra enthusiasm now that Julia Cohen, one of the world's top juniors, has joined the team for the 2008 dual season.

"I only took an official visit to Florida," says Cohen, who also considered Virginia, Miami and Georgia. "I went there in December and I just loved it; the campus, my teammates, the location, the support for the athletes they have at Florida."

Cohen, who reached No. 4 in the ITF world junior rankings this summer and was No. 2 in the final Tennis Recruiting Network 2007 class rankings, has ended the past three years ranked inside the WTA Top 500. But the opportunity to play college tennis while working toward a career as a professional gave Gainesville an edge over the Pro Circuit.
