Advice for Seniors Still Searching for the Right College
Share:

The signing period opens next week and some seniors still haven’t found a college program they can play for. It can be a stressful time, and many are left wondering if there will ever be a roster spot for them.

To help alleviate some pressure, college coaches from the country offered their advice in a special Countdown to Signing Day edition of our Coaching Roundtable.

Jordan Smith, Kansas State women

“This should be an exciting time for all seniors regardless if they know where they’re going yet. The best advice I would have for any senior is that the perfect program for your future is still out there. Just because it’s not your first choice, doesn’t mean it won’t become the greatest decision you’ve ever made. There are so many great programs out there these days, and, with the right mindset, all of them have the potential to help with your academic and tennis goals.

“I remember going through this as well. Being a senior and being set on only one university. Turned out that university wasn’t only set on me. Took me a while to know what I actually wanted out of a college program outside of rankings or prestige. It was really important that I found teammates and coaches that became life-long friends; a program where I could play immediately and develop my game. Also, having a head coach that always did the best for their team no matter how many team wins or if you were in or out of the line-up. Despite being a later decision, I had the greatest experience all four years playing college tennis.
