The 2012-2013 Wilkes University Men's Tennis Team won the Freedom Conference Title for the sixth straight year. The Colonels earned an automatic bid into the NCAA National Tournament!! The Colonels are now a combined 90-19 over the past six years, with six consecutive conference titles and six straight appearances in the NCAA National Tournament.
Post Season Highlights
The Wilkes Tennis Team won the Freedom Conference Title with convincing 5-0 wins in both the semifinals and finals! This team then advanced into the NCAA National Tournament. At NCAA's, the Colonels won their first round match 5-2. This was the second career NCAA win for the Wilkes Tennis Program.
Also, the men were honored by being named an ITA All-American Academic Team!
The Wilkes University Men's team qualified for the 2012 NCAA National Tournament! This is the sixth straight year the team has appeared in the NCAA National Tournament.
Also, this Wilkes team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tourney with a victory over Grove City college.
The Wilkes Men's team placed 6 individuals on the prestigious All-Conference team. Steven Wilson, Alex Makos, and Michael Kranz were all named to the First Team. Max Appello, Connor Peckham, and Brendon Blachowski were named to the Second Team. Also, Wilkes won the Player of Year (Wilson) and Rookie of Year (Kranz) honors.
Also, the Wilkes Team had players selected to the All-Conference Academic team and the All-American Academic Team.
Head Coach Chris Leicht was named Conference Coach of the Year for the 6th time. Coach Leicht led both his women's and men's teams to Conference Titles and NCAA berths this past year. Over the past 7 years, Leicht has won 7 women's titles and 6 men's titles. He has led all 13 of those teams to the NCAA National Tournament! Also, both of Leicht's teams won first round NCAA matches in 2013.
Coach Leicht has a 290-78 College Coaching Record, and holds all career tennis records at Wilkes University. Before coaching at Wilkes, Leicht was the head boy's tennis coach at Danville where he posted a career 57-4 record. Leicht's career overall coaching record stands at 347-82.
Coach Leicht is a PTR Certified teaching professional, and also serves on the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee. He is a full-time coach at Wilkes University, and also oversees their indoor athletic facility.
