Conference Highlights
The Lady Express compiled a 7-2 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference in their spring 2010 season.
8 out of 10 Players were named to the NEAC All-Conference Team. Two players won the sectional championship in singles. The Express took 3rd place in the team tournament.
In fall 2007, the Wells tennis team competed in the NEAC conference championship final and was able to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament that spring.
6 players received the NEAC Scholar Athlete Award for outstanding performance in academics in 2010.
This season we’re looking to take the league championship and compete in the NCAA National Tournament.
Individual Achievements
Caitlyn Copfer, Sophomore, and Ana Riley, Senior took home singles titles in the North Eastern Athletic Conference in the spring of 2010 going undefeated in season and in the championship tournament.
6 players received the NEAC Scholar Athlete Award for outstanding performance in academics in 2010.
Coaching Achievements
Rachel Gunderson is entering her second year as the Director of Schwartz Athletic Center, Physical Education Coordinator, and Head Women's Tennis Coach at Wells College. In 2010, Gunderson led her team to a 7-2 conference record and took 3rd place in the conference championship.
Gunderson previously worked as the assistant women’s tennis coach at Ithaca College helping lead the Bombers to the Empire 8 Conference Championship and their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
A native of Bemus Point, NY, Gunderson played four years of collegiate tennis at Ithaca where she earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2008 before going on to earn her master’s in health education from Ithaca. Gunderson competed herself to help lead the Bombers to four-straight Empire 8 conference championships (2004-2008) including an NCAA tournament berth in 2007. Gunderson would finish 3rd all-time in school history in singles wins and 7th all-time in school history in career wins, while also being named 2007 Women’s Tennis League Sportswomen of the Year and 2007 Empire 8 Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament MVP.
